TherapySmith is a group practice of Los Angeles Therapists that specialize in psychotherapy for loveable weirdos: creatives, black sheep, outsiders, introverts, neurodivergent folx, and everyone who struggles to find belonging.

We provide in-person psychodynamic psychotherapy for individuals, couples, and groups  for people in Los Angeles. Additionally, we also provide quality long-term psychotherapy to people all over California via telephone and video.

What is “Psychotherapy for Loveable Weirdos?”

A “lovable weirdo” is someone who might feel out of place or doesn’t always feel like they belong. Maybe you’re the “black sheep” in your family. You might identify as an Introvert or as a creative or artistic person. Or you might be neurodivergent or have a diagnosis of ADHD or an Autism Spectrum Disorder.  Regardless, you find yourself longing to connect more with others and to feel more confident as your authentic self. Many Los Angeles therapists bill themselves as a “therapist for creatives” but tend to focus on career aspirations or fame rather than trying to understand you deeply and holistically. At TherapySmith, being a “loveable weirdo” means more than just what you do for a living or how others may perceive you.

You are a person to be understood, not a problem to be solved.

At TherapySmith, we start with the idea that there is already a lot about you that is strong and worthy. We take our time to explore who you are, including your family history, in order to understand how your past influences your present. As your relationship with your therapist develops, you will also pay attention to the interpersonal dynamics. Working this way can alleviate the pressure and anxiety that “lovable weirdos” may feel in other parts of their lives.

TherapySmith’s Approach to Psychotherapy

Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy addresses a variety of mental health issues. Some of these issues may include anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, trauma, marriage problems and relationship issues, communication, suicidal ideation, existential problems, low self-esteem, and anger problems. This approach is useful for people who struggle to feel and express their emotions, as well as for people who struggle with vulnerability because it uses the relationship between you and your therapist as a living laboratory.

Eclectic Psychotherapy
Eclectic Psychotherapy selectively applies techniques from a variety of approaches to best fit each person’s needs. We take our time to explore issues as they come up. Eclectic Therapy addresses a wide range of mental health concerns. This approach dynamically tailors the therapy to your unique and evolving areas of concern. Some of the mental health concerns eclectic therapy can address include: anxiety, depression, interpersonal/romantic/familial relationships, communication, boundary setting, low self-esteem/image/worth, anger, LGBTQ-related issues, consensual non-monogamy, and transition-related concerns.
